Youth off the Streets
Community Event
Singleton Heights Sports Centre has teamed up with Youth Off The Streets in the Hunter Valley to run an outreach program at the centre every Friday from 4–6pm.
The program offers a safe and positive environment where local young people aged 12–25 can play sports and games, learn new skills and socialise.
Youth Off The Streets’ qualified and experienced youth workers are also on hand to provide advice and support to any young people who might be experiencing challenges.
The program has been running for the last few weeks with great attendance by local young people. A strength of the program is the expertise of the Singleton Heights Sports Centre’s Program Coordinator, who has a background in outdoor education, coupled with the specialised skills of the Youth Off The Streets Hunter Valley Engagement and Support team in working with disadvantaged youth. Previous sessions have included learning to play squash, dodgeball, basketball and table tennis, physical challenges such as obstacle courses, as well origami and other crafts.
Each session ends with a freshly-cooked hot meal, which is free to young people and provided by Belgravia Leisure and Youth Off The Streets.
“Youth Off The Streets has been able to respond to community need in the Upper Hunter community with thanks to our long term supporter the Bloomfield Group Foundation,” said Program Manager Kim Lenard. “By partnering with Singleton Heights Sports Centre, we are able to broaden our reach and provide individual support and group programs that allow these young people to shine.”
We are dedicated to giving young people a fair go, and all 12–25 year olds in the Hunter region are welcome to attend.
Singleton Heights Sports Centre, every Friday from 4pm–6pm. Currently on hold pending Hunter Region Lockdown - stay tuned for updates on our first week back.
